Tony is a Muslim guide who speaks Arabic, English and Spanish and leads private tours in Osaka, Kyoto, Nara and Kobe. Halal meals and prayer times are planned into the day from the start. Prices are per group of up to 6: ¥38,000 for a half day and ¥58,000 for a full day, with hotel pick-up.

Halal food and prayer on the route

I choose halal-certified restaurants along the way (in Namba in Osaka, and near Gion in Kyoto) and leave time for prayer.

In Kobe we can visit Japan’s oldest mosque, opened in 1935, outside prayer times. Kyoto’s official tourism site lists free prayer spaces, including at Nijō Castle.
